Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire visitor guide — everything you need to know before visiting

Written by the Chaumont-sur-Loire Tickets concierge team

The Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, in the Loire Valley between Blois and Tours, is a Renaissance château and 32-hectare estate above the river. It began as a medieval fortress, was rebuilt from the late 15th century, and once belonged to Catherine de' Medici and Diane de Poitiers. Since 1992 it has hosted the International Garden Festival, where designers build around thirty new gardens each year on a set theme, alongside the Saison d'Art contemporary-art programme through the château, park and historic stables. One open-dated ticket covers the whole estate, and a two-day pass is offered in high season for those who want to take it slowly.
